Cutting-Edge Laparoscopic SuccessesAt the University of Wisconsin-Madison, we have a tradition in laparoscopic urology. Below is an historic timeline of the most cutting-edge laparoscopic successes. 1996• The first successful hand-assisted laparoscopic nephrectomy with a sleeve in the United States was performed at University Hospital by Dr. Stephen Y. Nakada, with the assistance of Dr. Timothy D. Moon. 2000• The first laparoscopic cryoablation of a renal tumor was performed by Drs. Moon and Nakada at the William Middleton Veterans Hospital in Madison. 2001• The first successful laparoscopic pyeloplasty in Wisconsin was performed by Dr. Sean P. Hedican at University Hospital. 2003• In January of 2003, Drs. Moon and Hedican performed the first successful laparoscopic radical prostatectomies at the William Middleton VA Hospital. To date, hundreds of laparoscopic operations have been performed at
the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and as our experience mounts, even
more advanced procedures may become routine. University Hospital is
also a site for the Zeus laparoscopic robot (Computer
Motion, Inc), which can be utilized in robotic laparoscopic procedures.
