UW doctors complete first robotic-assisted testicular cancer treatment procedure
Dr. Jason Abel and his assisting surgeon, Dr. Octavia Devon, recently completed the first robotic-assisted retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for testis cancer at UW Hospital and Clinics. This procedure, used in the surgical treatment of testicular cancer, typically requires a large midline incision from the bottom of the sternum to several inches below the navel. Use of the surgical robot for this complex operation allows the surgery to be performed through several smaller incisions and reduces patient recovery time. The UW is one of only a handful of centers across the nation offering patients a minimally invasive approach to this procedure.
