DOD awards Dr. Jarrard grant for prostate cancer research

UW Urology Professor David Jarrard, MD, is the principal investigator on a newly funded Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program Idea Development Award. The three-year project, “Targeting Dysregulated Epigenetic Enzymes for Prostate Cancer Treatment,” is a collaboration with UW Professor of Biomolecular Chemistry Dr. John Denu.

This grant will allow Dr. Jarrard and his team to investigate a new target for treating advanced prostate cancer. Dysregulated epigenetic enzymes cause structural DNA changes that have widespread effects on the growth and aggressiveness of cancer cells. The proposal seeks to harness new drugs that can lead to treating cancer in a “personalized medicine” approach. Copyright © 2017 The Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System
