Congratulations to this year's Department of Urology Shapiro Summer Research Participants
This summer a record number of medical students will be conduct research projects with Department of Urology faculty members as part of the 2011 Shapiro Summer Research Program.
These students are appointed as trainees in the Department of Urology for 10 weeks in the summer between their first and second years of medical school. The Shapiro Scholarship is funded by former faculty members Herman and Gwendolyn Shapiro and their foundation, as well as the Department of Urology.

Stephanie Mai and Dr. Downs – Comparative Analysis of Existing Surgical Risk Assessment Tool to Predict Post-Operative Radical Cystectomy Morbidity and Mortality Rates
Martin Sado and Dr. Abel – Identification of Risk Factors for Developing DVT/PE in Urologic Oncology Patients Undergoing Abdominal and Pelvic Surgery
Madelyn Welker and Dr. Abel – Identification of Clinical and Pathological Factors Associated with Poor Outcomes and Metastatic Disease in Renal Cell Carcinoma
