Congratulations to Dr. Bruce Slaughenhoupt, recipient of one of the 2010 Dean’s Teaching Awards!
These awards recognize excellence and innovation in medical education. Each nominee who is selected to receive one of these awards has a career distinguished by creativity in medical education, a demonstrated high level of teaching effectiveness, and extraordinary and sustained dedication and effort on behalf of medical student learning.
Dr. Slaughenhoupt is Associate Professor of Urology and Urology Medical Student Education Director, a position he was appointed to in 2006.
The award selection committee, comprised of previous recipients of the teaching award, carefully reviews submitted information drawn from a variety of sources including peer reviews, student evaluations, written course materials, publications, and presentations.
As part of his teaching service to the Department of Urology and SMPH, Dr. Slaughenhoupt authored the Department of Urology’s Medical Student Handbook. He has led the department’s journal club and has served as an instructor for the School of Medicine and Public Health’s Patient, Doctor and Society Course since 2005 and as an evaluator for the YEPSA exam since 2006.
Congratulations to Dr. Slaughenhoupt on this well deserved honor. Dr. Slaughenhoupt will receive his award during Medical Education Day on April 26.
