Message from the Chairman

Dear Applicant:

Congratulations on selecting a career in urology! I know that it has been immensely satisfying for me to practice minimally invasive urology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I cannot imagine an academic program with a better blend of traditional and cutting-edge urology.

Our program has nationally recognized experts in urologic oncology, female urology, endourology, infertility/andrology, robotic/laparoscopic urology, voiding dysfunction and pediatric urology. We currently have four active laboratories, numerous clinical trials and research grants studying urinary tract infections, voiding dysfunction, stone disease, and new treatments for urologic cancers. As a resident in our program, you are invited to participate in our latest clinical and research endeavors as part of your training. We strongly advocate resident participation in national research meetings and courses to broaden your learning experience.

Our residency program offers a strong clinical experience with exposure to the latest surgical innovations. UW Hospital is rated as one of America’s top 20 hospitals in urology by U.S. News and World Report several years running. While at UW Hospital, you will work one-on-one with our many full-time faculty and participate in a wide variety of surgical procedures, ranging from basic urology to some of the newest approaches to urologic disease, including robotic surgery. You will complete your urologic training by rotating at select area hospitals and the William S. Middleton VA Hospital. Please browse our Web site further for more details.

In addition, the city of Madison is a wonderful place to live and work during your residency training. In fact, it has been rated as one of the best cities in America to live in by several surveys. Housing is affordable and there is plenty to do in our capital city. I am glad you chose urology, and I encourage you to join us, at the University of Wisconsin!

Sincerely,
